LC/MS
Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS) refers to the combination of liquid chromatographic separation with mass spectrometric detection. The combination of these two powerful techniques gives the chemical analyst the ability to separate, detect and identify non-volatile compounds (small molecules) and biologically active compounds (large molecules) such as proteins. Mass spectrometry is capable of providing structure, molecular weight, empirical formula, and quantitative information about a specific analyte. The two API methods available are Electrospray Ionization (ESI) and Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization (APCI). The result is a quantitative analysis and mass or fragmentation spectrum for each component.
